New CECIMO President Comes from AFM

AFM, the Spanish association of machine tool manufacturers, is pleased to have had its representative Javier Eguren appointed president of CECIMO, the European Committee for Cooperation among the Machine Tool Industries. The new president, who succeeds the Italian Dante Speroni, assumes a two-year term in office.

Javier Eguren is CEO of the Nicolás Correa Group. He holds a PhD in telecommunications engineering from the Universidad Politécnica in Madrid. Through his long professional career, Eguren has been employed in managerial positions by several Spanish companies and institutions.

AFM has been a member of CECIMO since 1962, and holds one of its permanent vice presidencies. Koldo Arandia, president of the Spanish association, believes that holding the presidency of CECIMO is important for the Spanish machine tool sector.

“AFM is extremely proud to have Javier Eguren representing the European machine tool sector,” he says. “We shall strive to play our part in raising the competitiveness of a sector of such strategic importance. Our solutions make a decisive contribution to enhancing the well-being of advanced societies.”

Since its foundation in 1950, CECIMO has been defending the common interests of companies in Europe’s machine tool industry. It is made up of 15 European associations of machine tool builders, the largest of these representing manufacturers in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, France, and the UK. Other countries whose industry associations belong are Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, and Turkey. The group is the voice of more than 1,300 companies.

CECIMO countries account for more than 40% of the world’s machine tool production. In 2006, CECIMO producers posted a collective turnover of €19,665,000,000. CECIMO organizes the largest and most well-established event in the field of machine tools, the EMO exhibition, which is held every two years in the alternating venues of Hannover, Germany, and Milan, Italy.
