After the workpiece is clamped, the CNC system can control the machine tool to automatically select according to different procedures, change tools, automatically set tools, automatically change the spindle speed, feed, etc., and can continuously complete drilling, boring, milling, reaming, tapping, etc. This process greatly reduces the auxiliary process time such as workpiece clamping time, measurement and machine tool adjustment. There are two main types of tool magazines used on CNC machining centers, one is the disc tool magazine and the other is the chain tool magazine. The disc tool magazine has relatively small tool capacity*, generally 1-24 tools, mainly suitable for small CNC machining centers, chain tool magazine has a large tool capacity, generally 1-100 tools, mainly suitable for large and medium-sized tools CNC machining center.
There are generally two ways of tool change in CNC machining centers: robot tool change and spindle tool change.
(1) Manipulator tool change The tool is selected by the tool magazine, and then the manipulator completes the tool change action. This is a form commonly used by CNC machining centers. The structure of the machine tool is different, the form and action of the manipulator are different.
(2) The spindle tool change is completed by the coordinated action of the tool magazine and the spindle box, which is suitable for the situation where the tool position in the tool magazine is consistent with the tool position on the spindle. Generally, the disc tool magazine is set to a position where the headstock can move, or the entire tool magazine can be moved to a position where the headstock can reach. When changing the tool, the spindle moves to the tool change position on the tool magazine, and the spindle is directly taken away or put back the tool. This method is mostly used for small and medium-sized CNC machining centers with tool holders below 40.
CNC machining center is used to realize multi-functional automation and multiple processing, which can greatly simplify the process design, reduce the transportation of parts, improve the utilization rate and productivity of the equipment, and simplify and improve the production management.
